Precision-engineered biodegradable natural fibres for consistent, reliable performance.

Salike® Coir Logs

Our Coir Logs, also known as Coir Rolls, Biologs and Waterlogs, are the ideal eco-friendly solution for bioengineering, sediment containment, pond, stream, lake and riverbank stabilisation, vegetation establishment and habitat restoration (such as wetlands). Engineered to the highest standards, our Coir Logs are widely trusted by professionals undertaking construction, landscaping, riverbank restoration, and environmental rehabilitation projects. The logs are manufactured from high-quality yarn or plastic netting, with an inner layer filled with densely packed coir mattress fibre. The logs can be supplied either cylindrical or square and can be customised with holes to hold plants. Their water absorbency acts as mulch on the surface and as a wick soaking up moisture in the soil.

Materials

Engineered from high-grade natural coconut husk fibres

  • 100% biodegradable coir core
  • Available with coir netting (fully biodegradable) or polypropylene (PP) netting (extended structural retention)
  • Manufactured under ethically responsible sourcing standards.

Salike® Coir Logs

Features

Environmental Performance

  • Coir option: 100% biodegradable
  • Gradual natural decomposition aligned with vegetation maturity
  • No leaching of synthetic contaminants

Structural Function

  • Provides immediate bank toe stabilisation
  • Assists in sediment containment
  • Conforms to irregular bank profiles
  • Designed for hydraulic interface environments (flow suitability dependent on specification)

Durability

  • Naturally resistant to mould and biological decay during functional lifespan
  • Stable when periodically submerged
  • Typical design lifespan: 2–5 years (environment dependent)

Vegetation & Habitat Integration

  • Supports reed, grass and marginal planting
  • Promotes sphagnum and riparian vegetation establishment
  • Moisture-retentive coir core assists root colonisation

Water Quality Support

  • Assists in sediment capture
  • Contributes to turbidity reduction in low-to-moderate flow environments

Installation Efficiency

  • Pre-formed cylindrical units
  • Straightforward placement and anchoring
  • Compatible with timber stakes, hardwood pegs or steel pins

Uses

Coir Logs are specified across environmental and infrastructure projects including:

  • Riverbank stabilisation and toe protection
  • Shoreline reinforcement
  • Lake and pond edge restoration
  • Attenuation pond protection
  • Wetland habitat creation
  • Reedbed establishment
  • Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) including swales and basins
  • Stormwater management schemes
  • Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) landscape works
  • Slope toe reinforcement in low hydraulic exposure zones

Installation

Step 1- Site Preparation

Clear debris and shape the bank profile where necessary to ensure stable ground contact.

Step 2- Positioning

Place logs along the toe of the slope or waterline, ensuring continuous alignment without gaps.

Step 3- Anchoring

Secure using timber stakes, hardwood pegs or steel pins at appropriate intervals (spacing determined by hydraulic exposure and soil condition).

Step 4- Vegetation Integration (if required)

Plant directly into pre-formed apertures or behind logs to establish long-term root reinforcement.

Salike® Coir Logs

Salike products are designed to provide erosion control, surface stabilisation and ecological enhancement in accordance with their intended application. They do not constitute structural support systems unless expressly stated.

Performance is dependent on site-specific conditions, including but not limited to soil characteristics, slope geometry, hydrological and hydraulic forces, installation quality, vegetation establishment, and ongoing environmental factors. As such, project outcomes may vary.

All technical data, specifications and guidance are provided in good faith, based on current knowledge and experience. Variations may occur due to the inherent properties of natural coir materials and site-specific conditions.

It remains the responsibility of the project designer, engineer and/or contractor to determine the suitability of the product for the intended application and to ensure correct specification and installation.
