At Salike®, sustainability and commitment to the communities we are part of are at the forefront of our business, and has been since our inception in 2015.
As a company, we are driven by a vision of a greener, more sustainable future. With Salike Ltd, you can trust that you are partnering with a company that values sustainability, ethical sourcing, and the well-being of both people and the environment.
Community orientation provides the very foundation under which Salike® operates. We promote craftsmanship and provide employment opportunities within rural communities in Sri Lanka. By employing the craftsmanship capabilities of local cottage industries, communities become deeply involved in our business practices, ensuring that traditional methods and knowledge are preserved and utilised effectively.
Integration with local communities within Sri Lanka is integral to our manufacturing process, as it allows us to maintain the authenticity and quality of our products. We aim to grow alongside our local communities, fostering strong relationships and mutual development. By doing so, we ensure that our growth supports and uplifts the very communities that are at the heart of our business.
Furthermore, we actively contribute to local causes and charities, supporting initiatives that benefit our communities. Through such efforts, we not only promote development, but enhance the well-being of the people who contribute to our approach to sustainable horticultural and erosion control solutions.
Our commitment to sustainability has earned us the proud distinction of being a carbon-neutral company. We continuously seek ways to reduce our carbon footprint and implement strategies to offset any emissions we generate. Our collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) further underscores our commitment to combating climate change and promoting global sustainability.
Our commitment to sustainable solutions runs deep throughout our business practices and are made evident through our everyday operations, as outlined below:
Salike® is proud of its commitment to carbon neutrality in all aspects of our business operations. From production to logistics, we ensure that all emissions are fully offset through various initiatives ( How do we do this?). Whether our staff drive to work or use public transport, all carbon footprints are accounted for and neutralised through collaborations with carbon offset programmes.
We strive to commit to recyclable packaging, prompting biodegradable alternatives where applicable. We pride ourselves on minimising plastic usage through innovative packaging solutions. Our biodegradable packaging significantly reduces environmental impact, and we are exploring other sustainable materials to further decrease our reliance on plastic.
We use only 100% recycled FSC certified HP paper, sourced from sustainably managed forests according to Forest Stewardship Council standards. Additionally, all HP Instant Ink cartridges used for delivery services are made from recycled materials, including plastic water bottles and clothes hangers. All used cartridges are returned to HP, in order to be recycled responsibly. In addition, to reduce waste further, delivery labels are thermal printed. Also implemented is a rigorous recycling program within our facilities, adhering to our sustainable goals.
At Salike, we also prioritise waste reduction, which is evident in our utilisation of coir, a byproduct of the coconut industry. This approach not only repurposes agricultural waste but also supports a circular economy.
Salike® is proud to collaborate with various organisations that further its ethos and help it remain an entirely sustainable company. Salike® Ltd collaborates with Sedex, a global organisation dedicated to enhancing ethical business practices in supply chains. As part of this partnership, Salike® diligently completed the Sedex Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), which evaluates its labour standards, health and safety practices, environmental performance, and business ethics. Through its association with Sedex, Salike® is committed to upholding high standards in labour rights, safety, environmental impact, and ethical business conduct, ensuring that its operations and supply chains remain transparent and responsible. We are working towards obtaining ISO certifications. We are a member of The Organisation for Responsible Businesses (ORB).
Our dedication to social value is reflected in our work with local communities in both Sri Lanka and the UK. By fostering strong partnerships, we support fair trade practices, provide sustainable livelihoods, and invest in community development projects. This holistic approach ensures that our operations benefit the people involved in our supply chains, promoting social and economic well-being.
